Perioperative Monitoring Technology and Management: Coagulation Monitoring Technologies and Techniques

Coagulation monitoring is an integral part of blood conservation strategy in the perioperative period. Most recent developments are related to Point of Care Testing (POCT), which has gained increasing importance in recent years. POCT is suggested at each step of the perioperative period (before, during and after surgery) as it has been shown to improve blood conservation. In the light of technical advances, the clinical implications of perioperative coagulation monitoring are reviewed in this chapter.
