Comparative Clinical Trial of Topical Cyclosporine A and Mitomycin C for the Management of Refractory Vernal Keratoconjunctivitis

Cyclosporine A brought about significant objective improvementrelative to baseline (p = 0.012) and more objective improvement incomparison to mitomycin C (p = 0.046). Cyclosporine A was associatedwith greater improvement in ocular comfort (p = 0.003). Mitomycin Cwas associated with 14 new cases or exacerbations (67%) of punctatekeratopathy and 5 cases (24%) of hypotony. Hypotony was associatedwith limbal involvement, disease duration, and severity (p < 0.05).Six patients (29%) reported a remarkable burning sensation followingapplication of cyclosporine A.
