Filtering coal liquids: hydrogenation of distillate feedstocks

This paper presents results of an experimental program in which 20 different treated and untreated gas oil feedstocks were evaluated. This included seven untreated (base cases) and 13 hydrogenated gas oils. Extensive pilot-plant data are presented which demonstrate that distillate feedstock upgrading via hydrotreating is economically viable and becomes extremely attractive economically in a production-limited situation. Economic considerations are included.
