Intravenous Immunoglobulin Treatment of Pediatric Patients with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis and Review of the Literature

Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), frequently triggered by medications, are the most severe cutaneous reactions. The prodromal symptoms like fever, sore throat and malaise are followed by purpuric atypical target lesions, vesicular lesions, extensive exfoliation and desquamation in the skin as a consequence of generalized epidermal necrosis. Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) is the potential immunomodulator therapy used for SJS/TEN. In this study, three children with SJS,TEN and SJS/TEN overlap who were treated successfully with IVIG were reported.
