Servikovajinal Pap Smear Sonuçlarinin Klinik Parametrelerle Karşilaştirilmasi Comparison of Cervicovaginal Pap Smear Results with Clinical Parameters

2011
Background: Cervical cancer is the leading cause of cancerrelated death among women in developing countries. In this article, we evaluated the clinical parameters of female patients presenting to our department and compared them with smear test results. Methods: The smear test results of 1,101 women presenting to our obstetrics clinic in the period 2010-2011were evaluated with retrospective clinical data according to the Bethesda System. Results: It was determined that, in comparison with the normal observation of a diagnosis of inflammation (p=0.0001), inflam mation decreased significantly as age increased, that discharge and pain complaints increased (p<0.0001), and that complaints of bleeding and presence of lumps did not change (p=0.978 and 0.688, respectively). It was observed with the Mann-Whitney U test that the actinomyces infection increased in the cases with presence of an intrauterine device (IUD) in comparison with the absence of an IUD. When the results of the Pap smear test were examined, the ratio of atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance/low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (ASCUS/LSIL) was found as 11.1%. Conclusion: We believe that cervicovaginal curettage is the most reliable and easiest procedure, and we hope that the chance for an early diagnosis will increase with tissue biopsy, when needed.
