Synthesis, gas chromatographic separation and structure determination of chlorinated 2-phenoxyphenols

Abstract Chlorinated 2-phenoxyphenols containing 3 to 7 chlorine atoms were synthesized and their structures determined by NMR and GC-MS. The most characteristic MS properties and GC retention times of the free phenols and their ethyl derivatives were investigated. The results were applied to analysis of the phenolic impurities in a commercial chlorophenol formulation (Ky-5, wood preservative).
