A new generation of large-scale solar thermal plants has been commissioned in the ''Am Ackermannbogen'' solar housing estate. A low-temperature network operating in combination with an absorption heat pump driven by district heat permit low return temperatures. This in turn makes it possible to achieve high collector efficiencies as well as efficient cooling of a seasonal heat storage unit. The authors describe the plant concept and report on first operating experiences.
