Coalitional Politics in India

2019
This book is an outcome of an extensive study conducted to explore the trends and patterns of coalitional politics in India. The research was undertaken at a time when India was experiencing a severe political instability at the Centre. The book analyses the working of various coalition governments at the Centre with a view to exploring the compulsions and politics in the coalition formation and the possible causes and the inherent weaknesses which are responsible for the downfall of such coalition governments. By delving into the then prevailing trends in government formation and management of alliance conflict, the writers have also sought to extrapolate the future trends in coalitional politics in India. At the end of the book, the writers have suggested the need for electoral reforms and changing role of political parties in coalition government. This book will be helpful to the students and researchers of political science, political sociology and comparative politics.
