Differential expression of tissue-type plasminogen activator in restenosis animal blood vessel

2013
Objective To study the differential expression of tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA) in restenosis animal model following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).Methods The bilateral restenosis animal model following CABG was constructed by transplantation of the arterial and venous grafts to the carotid artery in rabbits.Assessment of the differential expression of t-PA in the arterial and venous grafts was carried out by immunohistochemistry assay. Results The difference in expression of t-PA in carotid artery and vein was unremarkable prior to vascular grafts (P>0.05).The vascular graft surgery resulted in a significantly higher level of t-PA expression, which peaked at week 16 and reduced with time in the artery [(32.34±4.74)% vs (16.74±3.14)%,P<0.05],but not in the vein. Conclusion The t-PA may possess protective effects on vascular grafts at the early stage after vascular graft surgery, and is closely associated to the incidence of restenosis.
