A PLASMA-TYPE NEUTRON SOURCE FOR FUSION MATERIALS IRRADIATION TESTING

1993
A conceptual design of a facility for continuous irradiation testing of fusion materials by 14MeV neutron fluxes of 1 – 2 MW/m 2 is presented. In this design, D-T neutrons are produced in a multi-component plasma confined in a long axisymmetric mirror machine with a high mirror ratio. The power consumption of the entire system was estimated to be of order of 50 MW for 1.5 MW of power transmitted into the neutrons. This source provides a relevant neutron spectrum and allows completely simulate fusion reactor environment.
