On Selecting the Characteristics of Filters for Scintillation Measurements

1990
This paper presents a detailed account on the selection of proper filters for tropospheric scintillation measurements. The effects and errors due to digital sampling of continuous signals are briefly discussed. The procedure to decide the characteristics of the filters from the basic theory of amplitude and phase variance, and spectral density functions is presented. The necessity and effects of filters on particular scintillation measurements, during both clear-sky and adverse weather conditions, are discussed. The emphasis is on an understanding of filter effects and their effective economic implementation for scintillation measurements.
