Traffic density analysis on highway using Marr-Hildreth operator

2016
A rapid increase in the population, leads to the exponential increase in the number of vehicle usage. This is the reason for the traffic jam in certain junctions. So traffic analysis becomes a challenging problem nowadays. Normally the traffic signals are operated on a predefined fixed program, based on a timer. In this case, sometimes any empty lane may get green signal, so waiting state of the vehicles in other lane leads to congestion. To rectify this problem, we present an approach for detecting and analysis vehicles in highway traffic images by means of Marr-Hildreth Edge Detection. Region properties are used to estimate the vehicle count. Then the results can then be used to control the traffic signals. The whole works have been developed using MATLAB environment. With the results any user can search the traffic density through the Mobile Apps, then a mail that sends to the users' email, which contain all the details of the four lane traffic.
