Comparison Between Conventional Nano-sized and Honeycomb-shaped LiFePO 4 Cathode Materials for Li-ion Batteries
2020
In general, to increase the ionic ( 50 °C), nano-sized particles are exfoliated from the Al current collector during repeated expansion and contraction of the volume of the cathode active material during a cycle. To solve this problem, we designed honeycomb-shaped LiFePO4 positive materials by using a simple sol-gel method with a surfactant. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images of the prepared LFP show that the pore size and the wall thickness are approximately 3.01 µm and 112 nm, respectively. The honeycomb-shaped LFP (0.638 m2/g) has a larger specific surface area than does the conventional nano-sized LFP (0.352 m2/g). Compared with conventional nano-sized LFP the LFP with a larger surface area shows an average 2% enhancement in the discharge capacity for all C-rates. The prepared LFP has a better discharge capacity and cycle stability than does the conventional nano-sized LFP.
