A space division multiple access receiver

2001
Space division multiple access (SDMA) has been the focus of much research in the last several years. It has several advantages over other wireless multiple access schemes. With SDMA, a fourfold or more increase in capacity is achievable. An SDMA system is robust to multipath fading due to its combining scheme. One of the most important benefits of using SDMA is its ability to minimize interference from undesired users. Many studies have shown that it is possible to implement SDMA on top of other access schemes such as TDMA or CDMA and provide improved system performance. In this paper, we discuss the theory behind SDMA systems and present results from experiments performed in an indoor environment.
