Conditions for ignition of copper and copper alloys in oxygen

1998
Conditions for ignition of compact copper, brass, and bronze specimens in oxygen at pressures of 0.2–70.0 MPa in natural convection are studied by a thermographic method. For all the materials examined, the values of the ignition temperature are found not to depend on the pressure, and they are determined by the phase composition of the oxide films formed on the metals in the preignition period.
