Design and realization of improved median filter based on Stratix II EP2S60

In order to detect and track targets more effectively and reliably in infrared search and track system(IRST),it is necessary to do some filter preprocessing to improve signal to noise ratio(SNR).Here an improved median filter algorithm which is easy to be realized in hardware is used to satisfy the requirement of high speed in the real-time system.Used Altera's FPGA Stratix II EP2S60,a filter of 256×320×16bit image is realized successfully,which has a significant improvement in both SNR and running speed.
