X-Ray, Computed Tomography (CT), Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Imaging, and Intraoperative Imaging Adjuncts in the Evaluation and Treatment of Peripheral Nerve Tumors

2021
Benign and malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs) comprise many different etiologies and require imaging studies for proper evaluation and management. While ultrasound and MRI are the most commonly used and typically the most useful, other imaging modalities, such as X-ray, CT, and PET imaging, may also add valuable information in evaluating nerve tumors. Thus, understanding the value of these other modalities, the imaging characteristics of benign and malignant nerve tumors using these other modalities, and the scenarios in which these modalities are likely to provide useful information is important for being able to comprehensively evaluate and manage nerve tumors.
