BRUNNER'S GLAND TUMOR OF THE DUODENUM WITH ANEMIA AND TARRY STOOL : REPORT OF TWO CASES

1993
Brunner's gland tumor of the duodenum is a rare entity. We report two patients with this disease, which was discovered due to anemia and tarry stool. A 42-year-old man with duodenal ulcer visited our hospital because of tarry stool. Small intestinal series revealed a small filling defect in the second portion of the duodenum. The tumor was resected endoscopically, and the histological diagnosis was Brunner's gland adenoma. A 70-year-old woman complained of anemia during admission because of brain infarction. Upper endoscopic examination revealed a polypoid lesion in the duodenal bulb. The histological diagnosis of the biopsy specimen was Brunner's gland hyperplasia.Brunner's gland hyperplasia or adenoma is not a premalignant condition. Endoscopic resection accompanying treatment for chronic duodenitis is the treatment of choice for Brunner' s gland hyperplasia or adenoma.
