HISTORY REPEATING : LIGHT RAIL MANAGEMENT

This article discusses the resurgence of light rail transit (LRT). It focuses on the SMARTRAMS system which provides automated control and management of the LRT system. The system is organized by modules which provide the following capabilities: automation of local systems; signaling and operating the vehicles; centralized circulation control; depot and fleet management systems; information and remote-assistance to passengers; and, a traffic light priority system.
