The amounts and kinds of carbohydrates in Virgin and reclaimed peat soils

1994
It is shown that the amounts and kinds of carbohydrates in peat soils depend on the type of peat and do not depend on the duration and intensity of agricultural use. Peat soils derived from mosses and sedges contain the largest amounts of carbo-hydrates, while those which have formed from woody plants and reeds contain the least amounts. The content of readily hydrolyzable carbohydrates in peat soils is 3-10 times higher than the content of those difficult to hydrolyze.
