Densidad ósea en mujeres postmenopáusicas en una muestra de población del norte de México

2004
Objective: To analyze the bone mass density in a north Mexico postmenopausal women group. Material and methods: We evaluated a 410 Mexican women group, 55-85 years old, with dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry in femur, spine or total body. Results: The analysis with SPSS statistic program shows 32% osteoporosis, 49% osteopenia, and normal bone mass density (BMD) in 19% of patients. The mean age in normal bone density was 65 ± 4.8 years, in osteopenia was 67 ± 6.1 years, and osteoporosis 70 ± 7.9 years, with groups variance of 6.845 (p = .001). In the 84 patients with fracture in diverse sites, we found normal BMD in 8 (9.5%), osteopenia in 43 (51.2%) and osteoporosis in 33 patients (39.3%). In asymptomatic women studied like part of preventive actions (40%), found osteoporosis in 26%, osteopenia 54%, and normal BMD in 20% of patients. Conclusion: In our study we found approximately one of three women older than 55 years presented osteoporosis, and near 1 of two, osteopenia. The bone mass density evaluation is very important in women of 55 years old or more for early diagnosis and treatment.
