Outcome for juvenile idiopathic arthritis

Abstract Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) is a heterogeneous group of chronic inflammatory conditions comprising several disease subtypes with a widely variable clinical course and outcome. An ideal treatment outcome is one where there is lifelong disease remission with no long-term functional or psychological impact. Although not always achieved, over the past decade there has been considerable progress towards this target. The quality of outcome for JIA is dependent on early diagnosis and intensive management to optimise disease control. This review looks at the key aspects of management in JIA that influence prognosis and outcome.
