The properties and application of bi-metal hot-forging die

Abstract Mechanical properties at room and high temperature, and heat-stability tests, are investigated for bi-metal hot-forging die blocks manufactured by means of electronslag refining. The heat-treatment processes are also optimized in this paper. Production tests of the die indicated that the service life of the bi-metal die block was 47–80% greater than that of a 5CrMnMo forging die block. The economic benefit is remarkable.
