Association of coronary heart disease with drinking of desalinated sea water in Shengsi Islands

Objective To analyze the association of coronary heart disease with drinking of desalinated sea water in Shengsi Islands. Methods Participants were selected randomly from three groups of residents(people drinking desalted sea water,multiple sources of water and non-sea source water,respectively) in the county and investigated for eating habits,source of drinking water and other relevant life styles. Results Prevalence rate of coronary heart disease(CHD) increased with age significantly.CHD incidence rate was the highest in population of drinking desalted sea water and the lowest in people of drinking non-sea source water.The CHD incidence rate was associated with age,drinking of desalted sea water and eating quantity of marine products. Conclusion It is important to perform further research for the association of CHD and drinking of desalted water,and to take preventive measures in decreasing the CHD incidence rate in Shengsi Islands.
