Five-Axis NC Cutting System of Propeller Type Water Turbine Runner

Abstract We, TOSHIBA, have introduced large-sized 5-axis NC milling machine and 5-axis NC machining centre, and are mainly machining water turbine runners. For example, propeller type water turbine runner has sculptured surface and functional surface, and it is difficult to cut all of it's surfaces especially their joint portion. We have succeeded to cut whole surfaces of propeller-type water turbine runner by using 5-axis NC milling machine and unique and special software programs. And also, we have succeeded to cut off runner blade interference parts with runner boss when runner blades have their maximum inclination. By this NC cutting system, 80 or 90% of hand-craft grinding operation time is reduced.
