Software and hardware optimisation for a laser surgical ophtalmic microscope

2013
The purpose of this work is to analyze and discuss the development of an advanced genuine laser module which can be mounted on commercial ophthalmic laser microscopes whose laser is damaged or it does not have one, on basis of a genuine approach of the optics, hardware and software. The software is designed in a visual programming tool for microcontrollers, which made the effort similar to the one necessary for code-write programming. Moreover, details the issues occurred during the design and achievement of this device, stating the advantages and disadvantages in comparison with other similar instruments are discussed. The system is used mainly in order to correct the posterior capsular opacification which may occur after cataract surgery, and for peripheral iridotomy in patients with acute angle-closure glaucoma.
