Adaptive cluster heads selection for fan-shaped clusters in WSNs

2018
Cluster-based routing schemes have attracted a great deal of interests due to the high data forwarding efficiency in large scale sensor networks. In this paper, we propose a fan shaped cluster scheme with an adaptive cluster heads (CHs) selection mechanism for large scale wireless sensor networks (WSNs). In order to coordinate and balance the energy distribution of the network, therefore to prolong the network lifetime, the adaptive CHs selection is adopted among the candidate CHs, which is evaluated and defined in the cluster construction stage. Verified on Opnet simulation platform, the new scheme outperforms the compared schemes in terms of prolonging the network lifetime and data collection efficiency.
