Multipath and pulse noise removal for an FM receiver

2001
Multipath noise in a received signal is detected 11 and removed 12. The frequency of occurrence of pulse noise (individual spikes of which have a longer duration and a larger amplitude than those of multipath noise) is detected and used to control a pulse noise detection threshold. When the frequency of occurrence of pulse noise is high, the detection level is also set to be high and thereby only large amplitude spikes are corrected. Removing only large amplitude pulse spikes when there is a frequent occurrence of pulse noise helps to reduce deterioration of the quality of the demodulated signals.
