Analysis of risk factors of death after primary brainstem hemorrhage in the elderly

2020
Objective To investigate the risk factors of death after primary brainstem hemorrhage (PBH) in the elderly. Methods A total of 86 elderly PBH patients in Houma People’s Hospital from October 2010 to October 2018 were selected.Data including age, gender, heart rate and survival rate at one month after onset were collected.Univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to determine the risk factors for death. Results One month after onset, 38 cases died and 48 cases survived, with case fatality rate of 44.19%. Age, high fever, blood glucose, hydrocephalus, mechanical ventilation, ventricular rupture, hematoma volume and Glasgow coma score (GCS) ≤8 were the single influencing factors of the death after PBH. Hematoma volume, GCS≤8 and blood glucose were independent risk factors of death after PBH. Conclusions Age, high fever, unconsciousness, blood glucose, hydrocephalus, mechanical ventilation, ventricular rupture, hematoma volume, and GCS≤ 8 are related to the death of elderly patients with PBH. Among them, hematoma volume, GCS≤ 8, and blood glucose are independent risk factors for the death of elderly patients with PBH.
