Complications of abdominal interventional ultrasound : the dissemination risk

1998
Postbiopsy tumoral seeding is bound to the needle calibre, to the number of passes into the lesion, to needle characteristics, to tumour histotype, and immune status of the patient. The complication appears in the major part of the cases from 1 to 6 months after the procedure. Tumoral seeding incidence after procedures of abdominal interventional ultrasound ranges from 0.003% and 0.009%. The clinical impact of this complication is still under debate. It is advisable to avoid the use of rough needles and to reduce the number of needle passes.
