The present invention provides a timer duration setting method used for switching time setting for communication modules, and the selection method of a communication module. In the timer duration setting method, the timer is used for setting switching time point for a communication module; and the communication module is one of the plurality of communication modules in user equipment with multi-mode communication function in the mobile communication network. The timer duration setting method comprises: when the communication module is powered-on, or a specific condition occurs, setting the timer duration; and when the timer expires, switching the communication module; wherein, when the timer has not expired or the timer expires, if no need to switch the communication module is detected, terminating the timer and continuously waiting for the next specific condition. The timer duration setting method and the selection method of a communication module of the present invention may ensure user data transmission is maintained at a relatively high transmission rate that the current system and environment can provide.
