Strategy for Efficient Prevention from Photo-Ageing

To prevent photo agency of the skin seven skin cate formulations were tested accordingly to their radical protection. Enhanced free radical generation during UV irridiation in skin is the cause for a premature ageing of the skin. Three parameters the Antioxidative Power AP, the Radical Skin Protection Factor RSF and the Skin Antioxidative Power Retention SAR were used for classifying different skin care formulations designed for the protection against UV generated free radicals and for the elimination of free radical damages in the skin. Six formulations contained a mix of different UV filters and antioxidave ingredients and one formulation contrained only antioxidants were tested corresponding to these parameters. The formulation with 3% DHHB, 7% EHT and tocopheryl acetate has the highest antioxidant power retention with a SAR = 98,4 %. This high SAR-value bases mainly on the existence of the UV filter DHHB.
