Postgraduate Education in India

The Postgraduate facility in India was established nearly three decades ago. In the last decade, rapid growth in the number of Training Centres has occured. At present, there are twenty-nine recognized postgraduate centres in the country. Twenty-four Centres are located at Medical College Psychiatry Departments, three at Postgraduate Medical Institutes and two at Institutes of Psychiatry or Mental Health. These figures clearly signify that the major responsibility of training is taken by Psychiatry departments of Medical Colleges.
