Successful Treatment of Idiopathic Membranoproliferative Glomerulonephritis Type I with Combined methylprednisolone Pulse, Cyclosporine A and Angiotensin II Antagonist

2000
A 17 y/o boy was accidentally found with heavy proteinuria by school urine screening. The renal biopsy showed type I membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN). The heavy proteinuria got remission after intensive immunosuppression therapy with 9 courses of pulse therapy with methylprednisolone, cyclosporine A and angiotensin II antagonist (Losartan). This article confirms the role of mass urinary screening in detecting children with nephropathy and the role of immunosuppression agents in the treatment of MPGN and proteinuria.
