The role of vanadium ions in PbO-As2O3 glasses

2018
Abstract The system of glass samples PbO-As 2 O 3 containing different concentrations V 2 O 5 (ranging from 0.2 to1.0mol %) were prepared. The glasses were characterized by Optical absorption, Photon luminescence, Infrared spectra and Electron spin resonance studies. The analyses of the results of the Optical absorption exhibit two absorption bands like 2 B 2 → 2 B 1 and 2 B 2 → 2 E and ESR studies indicated vanadium exist mainly two oxidation states viz.; V 5+ (diamagnetic) and V 4+ (paramagnetic 3d 1 ion) in the present glass matrices. The IR spectra of the present glasses suggests the presence of vanadium ions in V 4+ and V 5+ states in the glass network. In the PL spectra with increase in the concentration V 2 O 5 , the intensity of the peak is observed to increase with a red shift.. Keywords: Vanadium-lead arsenate glasses, Optical absorption, Electron spin resonance, Infrared spectra and Photon luminescence.
