The present invention relates to a method for operating a vehicle air conditioning system (3) comprising a refrigerant circuit (13) in which a refrigerant circulates and an evaporator (14) for cooling an air flow (12), and a thermoelectric heating device (18) for comprises heating the air flow (12), said heater (18) and the evaporator (14) in a to a vehicle interior (2) leading passage (11) are arranged. For cooling of the vehicle interior (2) of the refrigerant circuit (13) is activated. A comfort improvement by a felt rapid response of the indoor cooling is achieved in that during a start-up phase of the refrigerant circuit (13), the heater (18) is operated as a condenser, so that the heating device (18) the air stream (12) extracts heat.
