Research progress and prospect on enhancement of plant resistances to bacterial diseases through genetic engineering

2004
Main means to enhance plant resistances to bacterial diseases through genetic engineering include inhibiting the production of bacterial virulence factor and toxin, activating the defense mechanism in plant, introducing defense genes into plant, transforming non-plant-derived genes encoding anti-bacteria proteins into plant, suppressing disease by programmed cell death. Research progresses in this field are reviewed and the practical prospect is discussed.
