Synthesis of 2-Trifluoromethylthioacrylate and Its Derivatives via the Knoevenagel Condensation.

Abstract Ethyl 3-aryl and 3-alkyl-2-(trifluoromethylthio)acrylates as well as 2-(trifluoromethylthio)acrylate ( 3 ) are readily prepared by the Knoevenagel condensation of ethyl (trifluoromethylthio)acetate ( 2 ) with aldehydes under mild conditions.
