Development of High Speed Manufacturing System for Jig.

Recently, as a product with complex form increases for multiple functions or high quality, a worker must machine a complex workpiece. At this time, it is necessary to make a jig for clamping the workpiece. However, large cost and long time are required in order to make the jig. Therefore, in this paper, the high speed manufacturing system of the jig was developed. This system consists of a design part and a munufacturing part. In the design part, at first, a FEM model is made by using 3 D-CAD data of the complex work. Next, strength of the jig with some various clamping elements is calculated by FEM analysis. Then, the most suitable jig is decided. NC data for manufacturing the jig is generated by the hand-made CAM. In the manufacturing part, the welding shank with YAG laser was devoloped. Therefore, a jig is manufactured by a machining center equipped this shank. Six jigs for clamping six kind of parts are manufactured by applying this system and evaluated. It is concluded from the results that; (1) The developed system is effective to manufacture six jigs. (2) The complex workpieces could be fixed firmly by these jigs, respectively.
