Combustion synthesis of MnZnFe_2O_4 ferrite powder

The spinel Mn - Zn ferrite powders were prepared by combustion synthesis method. The dependences of the combustion temperature and the combustion patterns on the oxygen pressure were determined. Then the formation process of Mn - Zn ferrite was discussed. The phase composition of the combustion products were also studied by XRD. The results show that there exist a steady combustion wave front under lower oxygen pressure and an unstable combustion wave front under higher oxygen pressure. The products consist of the spinel intermediate phases. The higher Mn content, the more intermediate phases. The products change from the multiple spinel phases to the single spinel phase and a - Fe2O3 after the heat treatment at 1 000℃ for 2 hours.
