PREDICTION OF THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF CO2 MIXTURES RELEVANT FOR CO2 CAPTURE, TRANSPORT AND STORAGE

2013
The design and operation of CO2 pipelines requires careful consideration due to the unique properties of CO2 streams, especially in the presence of impurities, which affect the thermodynamic and transport properties of CO2. Recompression distance, compression power and pipeline capacity are directly affected by the type, combination and quantity of impurities. Therefore, knowledge of the pressure-volume-temperature-composition (PVTxy) properties of CO2 mixtures is essential for the reliable design and operation processes for capture, transport and storage of CO2.The objective of this study is to evaluate the behavior of classical thermodynamic models such as cubic equations of state Soave-Redlich-Kwong and Peng-Robinson, as well as that of the CPA equation of state, in predicting the thermodynamic properties of pure CO2 and CO2 mixtures with other impurities.
