An absorbent core (28) useful for an absorbent article (20) comprising two storage layers (60), each storage layer comprising: a substrate layer (100) comprising a first surface and a second surface, said layer comprising in addition to storing a discontinuous layer of absorbent material, with areas comprising absorbent material and areas free of absorbent material, said areas comprising absorbent material being connected or said areas free of absorbent material being connected, said absorbent material comprising a material (110) absorbent polymer, said absorbent material optionally comprising an absorbent fibrous material and said fibrous absorbent material not representing more than 20% by weight of the total weight of the absorbent polymeric material (110), said discontinuous layer of absorbent material comprising a first surface and a second surface, further comprising each storage layer a layer of thermoplastic material (120), said layer of thermoplastic material (120) comprising a first surface and a second surface wherein said second surface of said discontinuous layer of absorbent material is in at least partial contact with said first surface of said substrate layer (100), wherein parts of said second surface of said thermoplastic material layer (120) are in direct contact with said first surface of said substrate layer (100) and portions of said second surface of said layer of thermoplastic material (120) are in direct contact with said first surface of said discontinuous layer of absorbent material, and wherein the first and second storage layers are joined, so that the first surface of the substrate material (100) of the first storage layer (60) is oriented facing the first surface of the substrate layer (100) of the second layer (60) d and storage, wherein said thermoplastic material (120) is a hot melt adhesive and is fibrous.
