Plasma brain-derived neurotrophic factor in bipolar and unipolar depression

Conclusion Our results show that lower Brain-De- rived Neurotrophic Factor levels may be related to both severity of depression and retardation symptoms in bipolar de- pression. Further studies need to ascer- tain whether and how the Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor levels may be asso- ciated with any psychopathological di- mensions of the depressive state and be used as a biological marker to differenti- ate bipolar from unipolar depression.
