Konserwacja zabytkowych skór archeologicznych

1995
Archaeological leather objects discovered in water and soil call for suitable protection immediately after excavation. The Department of Paper and Leather Conservation at the Institute of Historical Monuments and Conservation in the Nikolaj Copernik University has recently undertaken research on methods for its conservation. This procedure is the following: mechanical and chemical cleaning of the dirt from the surface and inner structure of the leather, followed by the removal of tanine elements. Excellent effects were obtained by the application of the Sonorex Ultra Sound device combined with the uwe of the active surface Canpac and the EDTA Solution which causes blocking the above mentioned complexes responsible for the dark hues of the leather: i. Additional three-stage tanning combined with calcimine tanning; ii. The introduction of lubricants or permeation with Si Finish WS80M silicone. The latter lowered the microbiological susceptibility of the treated leather.
