Synthesis and evaluation of mechanical properties of Kevlar composite with nano alumina and nano titanium dioxide

2019
The mechanical properties of the Kevlar Embedded with nanomaterials can be enhanced by selection of proper material ratios. The laminates were prepared in the varying concentrations of the Nano alumina and Nano titanium dioxide. The Nanopowders are synthesized using a high energy ball milling technique. Nanopowders were added to improve the mechanical properties akin to flexural stress, impact strength and tensile strength. Laminates are prepared by hand-layup technique, cured at atmospheric temperature & pressure for 24 hours. Kevlar woven fabric of 220 GSM are taken with LY 556 resin and HY951 hardener was to prepare seven-layered laminates. Fiber binder proportion is 1:1.5 ratios and resign-hardener is taken as 10:1. Four laminates were prepared, one without nanocomposite powder and other three with alumina Nanopowder with different weight ratios vi 0.5, 1, 1.5 weight % of resign of alumina and titanium dioxide by its volume. Laminates are as per ASTM standards to conduct test on tensile strength, flexural load and for hardness test and impact strength. An attempt is being made to explain their enhance behavior with the inclusion of nanocomposite.
