The invention discloses a winding preventing system and method for steel wire ropes for a reciprocating type passenger ropeway. The winding preventing system comprises a signal amplifying and processing circuit, an LCD display device, a relay, a power supply, a detection circuit and a microprocessor, wherein the signal amplifying and processing circuit, the LCD display device, the relay and the power supply are respectively connected with the microprocessor; the detection circuit is connected with the signal amplifying and processing circuit; the microprocessor controls a contact of the relay to be connected with a ropeway PLC control system; the detection circuit detects traveling wave refraction signals of the two steel wire ropes of the ropeway, after the traveling wave refraction signals are amplified and processed, the amplified and processed traveling wave refraction signals are sent into the microprocessor, according to the received traveling wave refraction signals, the microprocessor calculates a distance that the steel wire ropes are touched and wound, and alarm signals are sent to the ropeway PLC control system. The winding preventing system and method disclosed by the invention have the beneficial effects that touching and winding conditions of the two steel wire ropes of a bearing cable and a pulling cable of the reciprocating type passenger ropeway can be detected in a real-time manner; when a fault occurs, an alarm is given; the relay is controlled to output signals and the signals are sent to a ropeway controller PLC to realize fault shutdown; according to detected data, the position of the fault can be judged, so that the overhaul of maintenance personnel is convenient.
