Digital average voltage control for switching DC-DC converters with improved dual-edge modulation

2017
This paper proposed an improved dual-edge modulation (IDM) for digital average voltage (DAV) controlled switching converters. The DAV control can regulate the output voltage of switching converter without a PI compensator. Different from the conventional symmetrical dual-edge modulation (SDM) method, the IDM has double sampling points in one switching cycle, which ameliorates the transient performance and minimizes the impact of the sampling point's location. The algorithms for IDM including improved leading-triangle (ILT) modulation and improved trailing-triangle (ITT) modulation for DAV controlled switching DC-DC converters are analyzed in detail. The transient performance comparison of DAV controlled buck converters with IDM and SDM is presented and verified by simulation results, which indicates that the DAV-IDM has better load transient performance than DAV-SDM.
