Effects of a Proprietary Spearmint Extract on Cognitive Function and Tolerance Parameters in Men and Women with Age-Associated Memory Impairment

2015
This study evaluated the effects of a proprietary spearmint extract (NeumentixTM), standardized to rosmarinic acid and total phenolic content, on measures of cognitive function, sleep, and study product tolerability in men and women with age-associated memory impairment (AAMI). Participants (N = 90; 67% female; age = 59.4 ± 0.6 y) were randomly assigned (n = 30/group) to consume 900 mg, 600 mg, or 0 mg Neumentix once daily at breakfast for 90 days. A computerized cognitive function assessment test battery (Cognitive Drug Research [CDR] system) was completed on days 0, 45, and 90. Fasting blood samples were collected to assess tolerability and sleep was evaluated using the Leeds Sleep Evaluation Questionnaire (LSEQ) on days 0 and 90. Mean supplementation compliance over the 90 day period was 100.1 ± 0.4%, 99.1 ± 0.8%, and 98.1 ± 0.9% for the 900 mg, 600 mg, and 0 mg Neumentix groups, respectively. Quality of working memory and spatial working memory accuracy improved on the CDR test battery following suppl...
