Does Insomnia Influence The Anaerobic Power of Volleyball Players
2014
Purpose: Inadequate sleep is a pervasive problem for many and may have serious consequences on a multitude of health factors that affect overall well-being and physical functioning. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of insomnia on anaerobic power of volleyball players. Materials and Methods: 40 male college student athletes were divided randomly into two groups as control and experimental ones. Those subjects who were recognized to have insomnia (by Insomnia Screening Questionnaire) were categorized as experimental group and the others with no sleep disturbance as control group. In both conditions, activity, sleep and diet were monitored. Experiments were carried out at 0900-1100 hours. At Test occasion, subjects were measured for peak power, mean power. Independent t-test was used as statistical method (p05). Results: The performance showed no significant difference in both tests of anaerobic power (peak power, mean power). Conclusion: In the light of above considerations, we suggest that short-term sleep deprivation is not effective on anaerobic performance.
