Material Quality of Braided Fuselage Profiles

Procedures for the early design phase of braided structures do usually not concern the feasibility of the structure and the quality of the braided preform depending on the braiding process parameters. Especially for high quality components like frames and beams in aircrafts those aspects should be considered in order to avoid costly re-designs. This work proposes a diagram with the limits of production for braided preforms. This diagram can be used as guideline information for the design process. Furthermore, numerical investigations illustrate the effect of different qualities of braided preforms on the mechanical performances of the laminates. With the aim of a reliable and fast design process for braided structures, procedures for implementing the limits of production and the quality information are proposed.
